In anticipation of Industry 4.0 , Nokia and Bosch have announced the twinned development of a new 5G-based proof-of-concept positioning technology .

In light of IBM ’ s recent X-Threat Intelligence Index report , which showed that manufacturing is the most-targeted operational technology industry for the second year running , the IT leader has announced a new partnership to help fight against breaches and cyberattacks .
Already showing an accuracy within 50 centimeters , the cutting-edge software can track portable devices and mobile assets , such as automated guided vehicles and robots , in a warehouse setting .
Unlike traditional positioning technology , however , Nokia and Bosch ’ s works in situations where no global navigation satellite service coverage is available ( for instance , underground facilities and warehouses ), meaning it could prove crucial in Industry ’ s 4.0 ’ s factories of the future .
GM goes digital
General Motors ( GM ), owner of Chevrolet , Buick , GMC , and Cadillac , has unveiled the latest phase of its plan to redefine the future of the automotive industry .
The American car conglomerate has partnered with Qt Group , a global software company , to onboard the latter ’ s cross-platform Human Machine Interface ( HMI ) technology . Consequently , GM is now able to launch frequent over-the-air software updates and additional benefits across its portfolio of brands . Software-defined vehicles , such as those envisioned by GM , are expected to transform the experiences automotive manufacturers can offer their customers .
Combining data protection , cyber resilience , and data management capabilities , IBM will launch its new software , the IBM Storage Defender solution , in collaboration with Cohesity , a leader in data security and management . The landmark technology is being designed with AI in mind and will leverage event monitoring to protect against ransomware , human error , and sabotage .
A proprietary cyber vault and clean room promise to boost automated recovery functions , which IBM claims will aid companies in restoring business-critical data in hours or minutes . IBM ’ s data also shows that the global average cost of a cyber breach is $ 4.35 million – an all-time record , and up 13 percent in the last two years alone . Hence , the company claims that businesses adopting its new IBM Storage Defender could benefit financially in the long-run .
