community that feels the influence of Mansfield Sand’ s efforts – it serves its own staff and local communities with the same levels of dedication. Demonstrating its commitment, in February 2025 the business announced its official support for The Lighthouse Club Construction Industry Charity.
As a company supporter, Mansfield Sand is helping to ensure that vital emotional, physical, and financial support is available to construction workers and their families across the UK and Ireland. Phil Jackson, HSE Manager for Mansfield Sand, expressed the company’ s enthusiasm for supporting the charity:“ At Mansfield Sand, we understand the challenges faced by those in the construction and allied industries and the importance of having accessible support when it’ s needed most. The Lighthouse Club does incredible work in ensuring that no one in the sector must face difficulties alone, and we are proud to play a part in helping them continue their mission.”
As part of its CSR efforts, the company is also dedicated to sustainability across its operation. The management team at every level looks at ways to ensure operations are conducted with the highest regard for the environment with all legislation and regulatory standards incorporated into working practices. Mineral extraction is only undertaken where suitable ecological deposits exist, and the sites are chosen to minimize environmental and social impacts. Furthermore, Mansfield Sand looks to follow best practices in the sustainability of its sourcing, production and transportation of products. All products are certified to meet the highest standards and are traceable from source to customer, with minimum processing other than decontamination of foreign bodies.
In a press release discussing how its sand quarry has become a hub for biodiversity and sustainability, Phil Jackson notes that the sites are designed with sustainability in mind.“ We aim to preserve natural habitats, playing our part in helping [ these ] birds to breed safely and increase their populations while meeting industry demands,” he says. The site has a rich and diverse progressive restoration scheme which will increase the amount of lowland heath to the county once the quarry has been worked out. There are only 250 hectares of the threatened heathland in Nottinghamshire and the company will contribute to an additional 24 hectares of primary habitat.
“ We conduct business with integrity and respect for the environment,” asserts Phil.“ Sustainability is central to our practices.” As resident and visiting birds continue to nest, Mansfield Sand stands as a model of sustainable industry- a testament to the balance between progress and environmental stewardship. ■
