which trades under the ticker FIX, is now a $ 9 billion annual revenue company, and EAS is one of more than 40 operating companies across its fleet.“ We’ re unique in that we’ re both a manufacturer and a contractor, whereas most of the companies Comfort Systems owns are primarily mechanical or electrical contractors,” Bill explains.“ Comfort Systems purchased Starr Electric Company in Greensboro and tucked it under EAS to give us the full total solution: mechanical contracting, manufacturing, controls and service, and electrical contracting.
“ We provide highly customized mechanical and electrical infrastructure such as central utility plants, mechanical rooms, custom air handling equipment, and modular electrical systems. Essentially, we modularize that infrastructure for highly sophisticated and complex industrial-scale projects primarily in the data center, pharmaceutical, and life sciences sectors. Think big infrastructure and utilities, and lots of chilled water, steam, and hot water.”
Today, around 80 percent of the company’ s work supports data center infrastructure, with the rest split across semiconductor, pharmaceutical, and advanced manufacturing clients.“ The concentration of data center work has developed over the last five years or so,” Bill reflects.“ We had a more balanced market split before then, but the scale-up of cloud and now AI has fueled growth and offset that sector for us. While growth isn’ t a new mindset for us as the company has historically grown every three to five years, the data center industry has seen us experience unprecedented demand.”
With demand in the data center markets increasing, EAS has evolved its capabilities for building data center cooling systems manufacturing-today. com 53
