In November 2022 , MTI completed the first US Army Modular Warping Tug ( MWT ) as part of the military ’ s Service Life Extension Program ( SLEP ). MWTs are a vital part of the ship-to-shore enablers that allow the discharge of sealift ships when suitable ports are unavailable . As part of the SLEP , this vessel underwent a complete transformation , with the installation of new engines and electrical components . A total of 26 modifications were completed , on top of standard maintenance procedures .
